Valley to serve trademark cake

LA TRINIDAD, BENGUET -- The valley celebrates its 36th Strawberry Festival with the trademark cake and street dancing to greet locals and tourists during the weekend.

La Trinidad Tourism Officer Valred Olsim said there will be public viewing of the giant strawberry shortcake on March 19, Sunday morning and a partaking in the afternoon.

The festival, themed “Sustaining the fruits of La Trinidad’s Agro-eco Tourism” is a celebration of good harvest which makes local economy continually thrive.

“We want to maintain barangays are active. We want to maintain that and of course, the revival of the giant strawberry cake and everyone is invited. We want to reminisce we have the biggest strawberry shortcake in the world,” Olsim said.

Olsom said a stronger participation of the villages is being sought now, encouraging barangays to have participate in the float and street parades.

This year’s festival aims to revive community spirit through the different barangays participation.

Olsim said the municipality still holds the Guinness World Record for the biggest strawberry shortcake, a feat in the past which catapulted the valley to international attention.

This year, there will be a minimal fee of P20 for each slice of the strawberry shortcake. Sixty percent of the tickets have already been sold. (Shena Golosino)
