8,000 jobs ready for summer

THE Department of Labor and Employment in the Cordillera Administrative Region (Dole-CAR) in partnership with all the local government units in the region is eyeing 8,048 jobs under the Special Program for the Employment Students (SPES) that will be starting this summer.

Teddy Sy from Dole-CAR said local government units will be opening the program for students who are poor but deserving, as well as for out-of-school youth (OSY) and children of displaced Overseas Filipino Workers (OFW) in the region.

Currently, there are 1,171 jobs that will be provided in the different local government units in Abra; 539 in Apayao; 681 in Baguio City; 1,003 in Benguet; 1,372 in Ifugao; 1,577 in Kalinga; and 811 in Mountain program.

There are still 896 jobs to be provided by DOLE to be distributed in different LGUs.

From the total beneficiaries, DOLE has the counterpart amounting to P29,186,425.85 to be given to all the LGUs with a 50 percent counterpart to 4th class, 60 percent to 5th class municipalities and 75 percent to 6th class municipalities in the region. Dole will also pay all the insurance of the beneficiaries.

LGUs through their respective Public Employment Service Offices (PESO) will be in charge of screening all applicants.

Sy said the program will help the students and OSY earn during the summer which will be used to pay their tuition and other requirements next school year. The selected OSY are expected to use earning to enroll.

The SPES beneficiaries will be helping LGUs and other government agencies in clerical jobs like encoding, filing in other technical duties. Minimum working days will be 20 days and the maximum is set as 78.

Students who have good grades may avail of the program as long as the annual income of their family is at the poverty threshold in the region which is P130, 000 or below. OSY and children of displaced OFWs may also signify their intentions in their respective PESO. They are required to submit birth certificate, previous grades, voter’s certificate, application form and income tax return of their parents if needed and other requirements the PESO may order.
