MARCH 14 was truly a magical night as SM Lanang Premier and SM Cinema treated a number of special guests to the premiere screening of “Beauty and the Beast” at the IMAX. It is the first Disney movie premiere screening that Mindanao is hosting.
The special screening, which happened two days prior to the regular movie showing date, had guests walk on the red carpet. They were then led to photo spots with an installation featuring the movie’s iconic rose in a glass case and the castle stairway.
Aron Dalaza, SM’s group brand manager, welcomed the guests in a short program just before the movie screening started. He revealed that the same premiere screening was also being held simultaneously in SM Seaside Cebu.
The much-anticipated live-action movie adaptation of the classic Disney fairy tale did not only bring excitement to the young ones, since the ‘young once’ had their eyes glued on the screen all throughout the film as well. I had always been a fan of the American animation studio and movie outfit’s “ever after” stories and I almost did not blink as I watched the film because I could not afford to miss any scene. And not only me, even my husband and my three-year-old daughter were so attentive as if internalizing every detail of Belle and the Beast’s love story.
Watching Emma Watson as Belle and Dan Stevens as the Beast re-tell the 1991 animated movie of how two rather peculiar characters fall in love with each other brought some kind of nostalgia. In fact, a number of guests, including myself, of course, were caught singing along with Belle, Beast, Mrs. Potts (Emma Thompson), Lumiere (Ewan McGregor), Plumette (GuguMbatha-Raw) and some other characters.
With the movie being shown in image maximum, guests had the chance to enjoy 26 percent more image, compared to the non-IMAX platform. SM Lanang Premier houses the only IMAX theater in Mindanao.
