Bomb explosion kills farm owner in Basilan

A COCONUT farm owner died in a bomb explosion believed to be placed by Abu Sayyaf bandits in Basilan province, the police reported Sunday, March 19.

The police said the incident occurred around 11:30 a.m. Sunday in the village of Dugaa, Tuburan, Basilan.

Police Officer 3 Ricky Mohammad, case investigator, identified the victim as Mustafa Abdurahim, 68, a coconut farmer.

Mohammad said that Abdurahim was harvesting coconut when he accidentally tripped on an improvised bomb fashioned out as a land mine.

The police authorities said the improvised bomb could have been placed by the Abu Sayyaf bandits target troops patrolling in the area. (SunStar Philippines)
