Jeepney driver shot dead

A DRIVER of a public utility jeepney (PUJ) was gunned down by two unidentified men at Purok Camansi, Barangay Banago in Bacolod City Sunday.

Senior Inspector Larry Teovisio, head of Police Station 3, identified the fatality as Ephraim Payas of Silay City, Negros Occidental.

Teovisio said Payas was at a vulcanizing shop around 10:30 a.m. when a PUJ driven by the gunman arrived. The assailant was accompanied by another man, who served as lookout.

The other driver fired at Payas, and his companion also hit the victim with a pipe.

Teovisio said the gunman drove his jeepney to escape while his companion fled to another direction.

Father, son shot

In another development, a man and his son were injured after they were shot at Sitio Amparo, Barangay Mabini in Escalante City Saturday.

Police identified the victims as Rolando Anonas and his son Ronald.

The victims were on their way home when they saw Rey Dequiña having a drinking session with a friend around 11 a.m.

The younger Anonas approached Dequiña and threatened him at gunpoint, but the latter grabbed the firearm and pointed it back at Anonas and shot him.

The suspect also fired at the elder Anonas and fled.
