Cebu road rage suspect surrenders

BUSINESSMAN David Lim Jr., who shot a male nurse due to a traffic altercation, surrendered early Tuesday morning, a police official said.

Police Regional Office-Central Visayas Director Noli Taliño said that Lim, accompanied by his mother, two other relatives and legal counsel Jun Salatandre, turned himself in at his office around 2 a.m.

Before the surrender, Taliño said Lim's mother together with Salatandre met with him and sought the assurance of her son's safety under the police custody.

Taliño said Lim is currently being held in his office while undergoing booking procedure and while they await the issuance of a commitment order from the court to identify where he will be detained.

"(Hindi pa siya naikulong dahil) Natatakot daw sila (relatives) sa safety ni David doon sa loob ng kulungan. 'Yun ang naging usapan namin before he surrendered," he said.

However, Taliño assured that no VIP treatment would be given to Lim.

Lim is the nephew of Peter Lim, who according to President Rodrigo Duterte is the top drug lord in the Visayas region.

On Sunday, Lim shot Ephraim Nuñal several times after a road altercation. The incident was caught on camera and went viral.

Taliño said they will file frustrated homicide and illegal possession of firearms against Lim.

He said they are only waiting for the signature of the victim for the filing of charges. (SunStar Philippines)
