COUNCILOR Noli Villarosa, president of Association of Barangay Captains in Bacolod City, urged village chiefs to include in their barangay assemblies the campaign against illegal drugs and corruption.
Barangays are mandated to hold a barangay assembly every year, and for 2017, it will be held on March 25.
Villarosa said he will conduct the assembly in Barangay Tangub on March 31 along with a blood-letting activity.
He added that in his barangay, they have been sponsoring a program for drug rehabilitation and schooling for drug surrenderers and several have already finished courses offered by the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority.
The Department of Interior and Local Government has directed barangay officials to include a report on their campaign against criminality, illegal drugs, and corruption when they address their constituents on March 25.
Interior Secretary Ismael Sueno called on village leaders to provide updates on their anti-criminality and corruption drive in the State of Barangay Address they will deliver.
Sueno added that the barangay assembly would be the perfect time for officials to update their constituents on such matters and discuss further solutions.
