Manila spikers dominate BVR Tour

THE teams of Far Eastern University (FEU)-Manila 2 and the BVR-2 dominated their respective rivals on Sunday to claim the titles in the men and women’s divisions, respectively, in the two-day Beach Volleyball Republic (BVR) on Tour at the Lakawon Island in Cadiz City.

The FEU 2 tandem of Kevin Hadlocon and Jeremiah Barrica ruled over Team Iloilo’s Belson Ocampo and Jason Laboyo in a close championship match for the men’s division, 21-18 and 22-20 as Team Davao’s Calvin Sarte and Kim Abian settled for third place.

Angeline Gervacio and Kassie Gormley of BVR-2 survived the three seats against the hard fighting duo of Team Iloilo’s Dhannalyn Mae Demontaño and Jackielyn Estoquia: 21-14, 18-21 and 16-14. South Western University-Cebu’s Therese Ramas and Floremel Rodriguez finished third in the tournament.

The event featured 16 teams from Manila, Cebu, Iloilo, Dipolog, Davao, Silay and Bacolod, with eight each spread equally in men’s and women’s divisions.

Aside from further strengthening the sports where Filipinos have great potential to excel in international competitions, it also promotes the country’s beaches as sports tourism destinations. (HGD)
