Owwa treats overseas workers, families

ABOUT 500 Overseas Filipino Workers and their families in the Baguio-Benguet area were treated to a day of fun during Migrant Workers' Day Sunday.

The affair was organized by the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration-Cordillera Regional Office.

Owwa Cordillera OIC Evelyn Laranang welcomed the OFWs and OFW returnees.

Migrant Workers' Day is an annual Owwa event. This year's celebration theme is "Kasanayan at Husay sa Paggawa, Proteksyon ng Migranteng Mangagawa (Work skills and talents, protection of migrant workers)," highlighting the importance of a globally competitive Filipino workforce in overseas employment.

The day's events included a skills demo, an OFW livelihood product display and selling, free medical services and film showing on migration realities and anti-human trafficking campaign.

There were also songs and dances, games, line-dancing for the participants.

"These activities aim to promote skills development as well as healthy lifestyle to OFWs and their families, as well as provide advocacy campaign on common migration problems including human trafficking," Laranang said. (Carlito Dar)
