Spa using cacao to open at Malagos Garden Resort

WITH the objective of achieving a zero-waste record, Malagos Garden Resort will be opening a Chocolate Spa in the resort making use of their cacao husk wastes sometime before the Kadayawan Festival on August.

During the weekly media forum at Habi at Kape, Abreeza Ayala Malls, Rhea Jane Pañares, marketing coordinator of Malagos Garden Resort, said they wanted to make use of their cacao husks and shells.

“We wanted to make it into soaps, scrubs. That’s why we envisioned a chocolate spa,” she said adding, in average, they are having three sacks of husks every month from their day-to-day chocolate processing.

She also said they were already making soaps out of their cacao husks wastes but were only as give–away products to their employees and are not available for sale.

Pañares said they are still currently finding a perfect location within the resort where to put the spa, whether near the entrance or the pond.

If ever the project pushes through on the target date, the chocolate spa will be the first in Davao City.

“What we’re going to offer is not the usual massage spa. We’re planning for a wellness and retreat spa. We’ll also offer yoga included in our 3 day, 2 nights wellness package. We also want the customers to be fully immersed and to reflect. We already have the soaps, oils, and scrubs out from cacao. We’re still testing it out,” said Pañares.

However, she also said interested customers can still avail of their spa offers even without staying overnight.

Part of the establishment of the Chocolate Spa is for the management to provide additional livelihood for the residents of the community like the farmers and the would-be soap and scrub makers.
