Balamban village official shot dead

A LONE unidentified gunman killed a 64-year-old village official in Barangay Luca, Balamban, last Wednesday night (March 22).

Luca Barangay Councilor Cornelio Yntig Pepito, a widower, succumbed to gunshot wounds in the body.

Senior Inspector Ramil Morpos, the town police chief, said the murder is linked to the victim’s active campaign against drug personalities in the village.

Pepito was very active in the Badac (Barangay Anti-Drug Abuse Council).

Morpos said they are looking into four drug pushers, who may have hold grudge against the victim after telling their names to the police.

Pepito’s live-in partner Milaluna Suquib Dayanan, 49, told the police that a brownout occurred before the incident happened at 6:30 p.m.

She lit a candle and set it on the table.

The couple had dinner.

Afterwards, Dayanan lifted the candle and walked toward the living room.

She turned and saw Pepito sitting on a plastic chair near the glass window.

Dayanan stopped.

She heard bursts of gunfire from outside. She ducked. She heard the glass window shatter into shards.

Dayanan rushed outside the room, stunned at sight of the bloodied victim lying frozen in the floor.

Crime scene investigators recovered ten empty shells of .9mm pistol and two deformed slugs in the victim’s residence. (KAL/SunStar Cebu)
