Boy, 13, shot by friend

A 13-YEAR-OLD boy was allegedly shot by another minor in Barangay Pajac, Lapu-Lapu City yesterday noon.

Paramedics rushed Jovie Ybañez, a resident of Sitio Bagong Silang, Barangay Pajac, to the Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center in Cebu City.

Police officers set out in search of 17-year-old Jason (not his real name), who was tagged as the suspect.

Ybañez sustained a gunshot wound on his chest, said PO3 Lydo Pinos of the Lapu-Lapu City Police Office Homicide Section.

The shooting occurred in a vacant lot in Sitio Kabatuan around 12:30 p.m.

Ybañez, who managed to talk with police investigators as he was being taken to the hospital, said he was sitting somewhere in the vacant lot when Jason came and shot him after a short argument.

Jason fled with the gun, believed to be a .38 revolver.

Pinos said they have yet to find out why Jason shot the victim and where he got the gun.

“We still can’t conclude on a motive. It could be personal grudge or something else. The victim would not divulge the cause of the argument,” Pinos told Sun.Star Cebu.

Both minors were reportedly school drop-outs and belonged to the same circle of friends.

Personnel from the Mactan Police Station set out to find the suspect after the shooting. He remained at large as of this writing.
