Nabbed 'Last Two' collector sued

A WOMAN is facing charges before the court after she was caught in the act of collecting bets for the game "Last Two" in Davao City.

Charged with violation of the Republic Act 9287, otherwise known as penalties for illegal number game, is Honey Mae Ong Batiancila, a resident of Dumanlas, Buhangin District.

Under section 4 of the Republic Act 9287, possession of any gambling paraphernalia and other materials used in the illegal numbers game operation is deemed prima facie evidence of an illegal gambling activity.

In a resolution approved on March 15, prosecutor Daniel Fernandez found probable cause to charge the accused based on the complaint filed by Buhangin police.

Batiancila was found in possession of one white board with list of numbers, 15 tally sheets with markings, calculator, pilot pentel pen, and three one-fourth size carbon papers.

The police also recovered from the accused one paired scissor, 11 stubs with bets, two ball pens, one brown ice cream container, one tupperware, pouch, and P225 cash.

Fernandez said he finds the arrest valid and in accordance to the law.

He added the complaint was resolved after the accused opted to answer the allegations to her.

Meanwhile, the Davao City Police Office has filed 114 cases for anti-illegal gambling at Davao City Prosecutor’s Office from February 1 to March 22, this year.
