NEGROS Occidental Governor Alfredo Marañon Jr. said Monday that after the Negrenses’s dream of creating the Negros Island Region (NIR) has been fulfilled, the bigger dream now is to make Interior and Local Government Secretary Manuel Roxas II the next president.

Marañon, who has been publicly declaring his support for Roxas, said Negrenses should help Roxas whom he had described as untainted by corruption.

For his part, Roxas, without officially declaring his candidacy for the president in 2016, said he is ready to continue what has been started by the Aquino administration.

“I would like to thank Governor Alfredo Marañon and the sugar planters for the trust. I accept the challenge, not only for me but for those who believe in Daang Matuwid, that we will continue what has been done," Roxas said when asked for his reaction on the endorsements of Marañon and the sugar industry leaders for his presidential bid.

Manuel Lamata III, president of United Sugar Producers Federation of the Philippines Inc., thanked Roxas for his support to the sugar industry especially the lifting of the Bureau of Internal Revenue 12 percent Value Added Tax on raw sugar.

He also presented the consensus of the different planters organizations of their support for Roxas’s presidential bid in 2016.(TDE)
