SECRETARY Martin Andanar of the Presidential Communications Operations Office (PCOO) welcomed the support expressed by the leaders of the sugar industry for President Rodrigo Duterte following the filing of an impeachment complaint against him.
“Any support for the President is highly appreciated. I give it to the sugar industry for their unwavering support to this administration. It looks like the people of the sugar industry understand what the President is doing and they know the sincerity of the President to make our country a prosperous one,” Andanar said during a press conference at the sidelines of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations - PCOO Roadshow in Bacolod City, Negros Occidental on Friday, March 24.
The statement of support, published in local newspapers Friday, was signed by National Federation of Sugarcane Planters Inc. president Enrique Rojas, Panay Federation of Sugarcane Farmers Inc. president Danilo Abelita, Confederation of Sugar Producers Association Inc. president Francis de la Rama, and United Sugar Producers’ Federation of the Philippines Inc. president Manuel Lamata together with the leaders of the associations under the four federations.
The sugar industry leaders said they “believe in the sincerity of Duterte and in his programs for the alleviation of poverty, the war against drugs and corruption, and the economic upliftment of the country.”
“Despite the accomplishment of Duterte in poverty alleviation, the fight against corruption and the war against drugs, some self-serving people like Magdalo party-list Representative Gary Alejano still dared to file an impeachment complaint against him,” they further said.
They also “condemn in the strongest terms the action of Representative Alejano and we reiterate our commitment and support to President Duterte in the midst of this impeachment complaint filed against him.”
Andanar assured Negrenses that government will strive to achieve the goals of President Duterte.
“My message to the Negrenses is, we in government, as part of the administration of President Rodrigo Duterte, will keep on working, showing our actions more than our words,” Andanar said.
He said the “survey bears us out,” showing that more than 80 percent of the population believes in the policies of President Duterte, adding that “majority of the population feel safer now more than ever.” (NLG)
