Duterte seeks China's aid to develop PHL agriculture sector

PRESIDENT Rodrigo Duterte is seeking China's assistance to bolster the country's agribusiness sector, giving Bukidnon the utmost priority.

Duterte keynoted the Kaamulan Festival in Malaybalay City, Bukidnon, which was attended by Chinese Ambassador to the Philippines Zhao Jianhua.

In his speech, the Chief Executive took the opportunity to ask Zhao to put Bukidnon in China's priority list in granting investments to modernize the province's agriculture sector.

"I am telling them, ambassador, that the first assistance to improve our economic condition and agriculture, especially in manufacturing, [will be given to Bukidnon]. Bukidnon will have the priority in this area because it is not in all meetings that you are present," Duterte said, drawing loud cheers from the crowd.

"So your presence today is very special and meaningful, and I said, because of that, because you are here, so I would ask you to help Bukidnon first in the agricultural sector. Thank you," he added,

Promoting the Philippines' agribusiness industry is on top of the Duterte administration's rural development agenda.

The current government is enjoying trade and investments from Chinese investors, following the improved bilateral ties between the Philippines and China. (SunStar Philippines)
