On women’s month, wife ‘beats up’ cop hubby

A POLICE official reported his wife to the police after she allegedly hit him during a fight over the latter’s phone.

A senior inspector (name withheld) assigned at the Police Regional Office 7 reported that the incident happened last Friday at 11 p.m. when he got curious why she continued to receive text messages late into the night.

Her phone’s message alert tone rang when they were already about to sleep and even when she was off-duty as a government employee.

The complaint against the wife came as the country observes National Women’s Month this March.

According to records of the Mabolo Police Station, the police official waited for his wife to fall asleep before taking her phone to try to check the messages.

The phone, however, asked for a number code, which kept him from reading the messages.

The wife woke up and found her husband trying to open her phone.

This resulted in a fight, prompting the official’s wife to punch him several times.

The senior inspector suffered lacerations on his left eye and in different parts of his body, which he reported to the police.

The incident was recorded in the police blotter as physical injury.

In an interview with Superbalita Cebu, the police official said that he and his wife had already patched things up yesterday.

He said that it was the first time that his wife hit him and that he didn’t retaliate. “There was no third party,” he added.

The official explained that his wife was communicating with someone about a property.

Superbalita tried to interview his wife but she refrained from commenting on the matter.

The case was referred to the barangay and was settled yesterday morning, she said.

Commenting on the posts about the incident on social media, netizens asked for the establishment of a “men’s desk” in police stations that will handle cases of men, similar to the Women and Children Protection Desk.
