Man carrying ammunition barred from boarding plane for Iloilo

A MAN from Iloilo City was arrested at Mactan-Cebu International Airport (MCIA) after he was caught carrying live ammunition yesterday (Monday).

Kim Bañas Tejana was undergoing preliminary inspection at past 1 p.m. when airport security personnel noticed two live bullets in his backpack.

Transportation Security supervisor Lizel Mondejar said Karl Hudson Asotigue, who was manning the X-ray machine, noticed dark images, a sign of metal, in the passenger's bag.

To confirm suspicions that the dark images could be contraband, baggage screener Eric Jay Moreno opened Tejana's backpack and saw the bullets hidden inside a pouch.

Upon inspection, the live ammunition were for a .50 caliber and unidentified firearm.

The 31-year-old resident of Barangay Our Lady of Fatima, Jaro in Iloilo City was then barred from boarding a flight to his hometown.

As standard operating procedure, Mondejar said they called the Lapu-Lapu City Police, who then brought Tejana to the detention cell.

When interviewed by reporters yesterday, Tejana refused to issue statement.

According to police, he reportedly works as a fish supplier to large companies.

A complaint for violating Republic Act 10591 or the Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act was filed against Tejana today.
