City Engineering’s Office starts Sta. Ana Pier beautification

THE Davao City Engineering’s Office (CEO) has brought in earth filling materials to the Santa Ana Pier area as part of its beautification project.

“They have been sending mga trucks in the area so I think they've made 47 truckloads,” Davao City Tourism Operations Office (CTOO) head Gene Rose Tecson Monday, March 27, said.

She added they are also waiting for the end of the one-month notice for the removal of the container vans in the area.

Tecson said once the area will be cleared, they will start landscaping.

“We hope [that] through the help of City Environment Natural Resources we will be able to place trees in the area soon,” she said.

Just last week, Tecson revealed the plan of the City Government to convert the Santa Ana Pier into a promenade area similar to Baywalk of Manila in a bid to attract more visitors not only for the tourists.

Tecson said the plan is to put up little islands in the middle of the Santa Ana Pier to elevate it by a meter and that they will ask the nearest construction operations in the area if they could dump their excavated soil there.

The Sta. Ana beautification project is a joint effort of the CTOO with the City Mayor's Office through lawyer Lawrence Bantiding, Davao City Assistant Administrator, Davao City Economic Enterprise, Davao City Environment and Natural Resources Office, and the CEO.

She said improvements are expected to be seen by May.

Tecson added the budget for the project is still being finalized.
