Cop caught mauling motorist surrenders to QCPD

THE policeman caught in CCTV beating up a marine engineer has submitted himself Tuesday to Quezon City Police District (QCPD) Director Guillermo Eleazar.

Eleazar revealed that Chief Inspector Melvin Madrona, who was assigned at the QCPD Station 5 in Fairview, personally turned over to him his badge and government-issued firearm before proceeding to Camp Crame where he will be placed under restrictive custody.

Madrona was the police officer who mauled and detained a motorist inside the said police station following a traffic altercation.

Madrona said he beat up the motorist after he punched him following their heated argument.

Eleazar said Madrona’s explanation is unacceptable.

“Kung ano man ‘yung nangyare before na siya ang unang sinuntok, it does not matter. Hindi maja-justify ‘yung nakita sa CCTV footage. Kung siya man ang na-argabyado it still does not justify what he did,” he said.

“The victim sought refuge dahil akala niya ‘yung police station ay isang sanctuary tapos ganun ang ginawa niya considering that he is a police officer,” he added.

Eleazar said the QCPD will support the Counter-Intelligence Task Force (CITF) in its investigation over the incident. (SunStar Philippines)
