Alcantara, Lock resume doubles quest with a win

BARELY missing the crown in the first episode, Francis Casey Alcantara of the Philippines and Benjamin Lock of Zimbabwe on Monday opened another doubles campaign with an impressive win in the first round of the Bahrain F2 Men’s Futures Tournament.

The fourth-seed pair of Alcantara and Lock made short works of Qatar’s duo of Mousa Shanan Zayed and Mubarak Shannan Zayid whom they overpowered in two-straight sets, 6-3, 6-2.

They will face the Unites States’ tandem of Anderson Reed and Mat Seeberger in the next round.

Should they hurdle the Americans, the Cagayan de Oro native Alcantara and Lock will have a possible head-on collision with title spoiler in the second-seeded Markus Eriksson and Milos Sekulic of Sweden in the semifinals.

Alcantara and Lock, the F8 Futures doubles winner more than three weeks ago in Egypt, lost the finals against the Swedish partners in the Bahrain F1 Men’s Futures doubles last week.

Alcantara is set to face the fourth seed Filip Horansky of Slovakia in the F2 Futures singles tournament.
