PDEA to villages: Help rehabilitate drug users

THE Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) encourages barangay officials to focus their intervention to drug users and leave the drug pushers to the agents and police.

During the first Capability Enhancement Seminar on Barangay Treatment and Rehabilitation Referral Process conducted by the Association of Barangay Councils (ABC)-Cebu City yesterday, PDEA Director General Isidro Lapeña said they want the barangays to help in the anti-drugs campaign.

“We’ll bring our program at the doorstep of the barangay because that’s where the effect of drugs happen to our citizens and to our children,” he said.

Lapeña revealed that all 80 barangays in Cebu City are affected by the drug problem. They are either seriously affected, moderately affected or slightly affected.

Lapeña hopes that no barangay captain will be suspended for being a drug protector.

Other PDEA regional directors also tackled during the seminar other drug-related issues and shared their experiences in their own cities and provinces.

ABC head Philip Zafra vowed to strengthen the barangay’s drug intervention programs.

The ABC also donated two motorcycles to PDEA 7 to help them during their anti-drug operations.
