Capitol officials pay tribute to former board member

NEGROS Occidental Governor Alfredo Marañon Jr. and Vice Governor Eugenio Jose Lacson led the necrological service for former First District board member Nehemias de la Cruz held at the Capitol Social Hall in Bacolod City Thursday.

Marañon said the Provincial Government and the people of Negros Occidental join the de la Cruz family in their moment of grief and sorrow.

He said the province is mourning the passing away of a good leader who dedicated his life to public service.

“He will always be remembered as the father and founder of the municipality of Don Salvador Benedicto,” the governor said.

Marañon noted that de la Cruz was instrumental in the crafting of the Negros Occidental Tourism Code while he was still the chairman of the Pro Committee on Tourism during his term.

After the mass, Lacson read the Pr resolution expressing the sincere condolence of the Provincial Board members to the family of de la Cruz.

De la Cruz’s wife, former vice mayor Cynthia de la Cruz, thanked the provincial officials for their sympathy, prayers and comforting words for their family.

De la Cruz died on March 20 at his residence in Bacolod City.

His remains was brought to his hometown Don Salvador Benedicto after the service. (PR)
