Road obstruction cited for fire department slow response

THE Baguio City Fire Department disclosed obstruction caused by illegally parked vehicles in the streets of different barangays remains as one of their problem when responding to fire incidents.

Baguio City Fire Station Inspector Jesus Yango recalled the previous years, they are hard up in responding to fire incidents due to the obstruction of vehicles especially in Aurora Hill and Quirino Hill.

"Dahil sa mga sasakyan na nakaparada sa mga kalsada, nahihirapan kaming makapasok nang mas mabilis," Yango said. “Kinakailangan naming itulak ang mga sasakyan na nasa kalsada para lang makapasok at maapula ang sunog."

Some 77 fire incidents were reported in 2015 while 75 was reported last year. For the first quarter of 2017 from January to March, there were already 13 fire incidents recorded, mostly structural fires.

Yango also said he is expecting many vehicle owners to cooperate with them so that they can help in times of fire.

The fire official meanwhile urged the public to strictly observe the Anti-obstruction Ordinance of the city in a bid to speed up their response time during fire incidents.

“Malaking tulong ang anti-obstruction dahil may ordinance na hindi dapat sila nagpaparada,” Yango said.

This summer, the fire official warned the public to check their electric appliances and avoid octopus connection to avoid fire incidents.
