Bigger cake eyed for next Strawberry Fest

LA TRINIDAD is gearing up for a bigger and better presentation of the strawberry shortcake in a bid to beat its previous record in the Guinness World of Records.

Tourism officer Valred Olsim said the municipality is pressed to introduce several changes in the festival hoping to lure more tourists in the town.

Aside from the trying to beat the current Guinness record they currently hold, innovations being eyed in next year’s festival include the holding of the longest strawberry cupcakes, jams, or any by-product of strawberry.

This are among the suggestions studied according to Olsim following the closing ceremonies of the festivity.

“We are glad that we have checked the pulse of the people through social media,” Olsim said adding the feedback from the residents will be considered for the staging of the festival next year.

Thousands of tourists and residents had a taste of the famous giant strawberry shortcake which was the center piece of the 36th Strawberry Festival last Sunday.

The cake weighed 2,500 kilograms and 1.5 meters high, 2.5 meters long, with a base of 3 x3 meters and produced nearly 16,000 slices.

La Trinidad Mayor Romeo Salda said the municipal government decided to make the replica of the giant strawberry cake which made it to the Guinness Book of World Record in 2004 to boost the tourism of the town and to promote its main product.

The giant cake replica was created by Badu Cakes and Coffee, Apple Blossom Bakeshop, Ad’laine Bakeshop, Cranberry Café and Resto, and Mom Menchie’s Sweets.

The cake was made with 225 kilograms of butter, 325 kilos of sugar, 275 kilos of strawberry, 225 pieces of eggs, 500 kilos of whip cream and 425 kilos of flour.

Olsim also emphasized they highly encourage the barangays to participate in next year’s staging of the festival. (Shena Golosino)
