Farm cancels Picking of fruits by visitors

BECAUSE a lot of customers have refused to follow the rules, Sergio’s Farm in Dalaguete town, southern Cebu will no longer allow visitors to pick strawberries.

In a Facebook post last Thursday, the farm’s management announced that they will be canceling the “pick n’ pay for strawberries” package, which has allowed customers to harvest for themselves the fruits they will be purchasing.

“There will no longer be a pick n’ pay for strawberries. Only the assigned farm staff are allowed to pick for you. This is due to many cases of customers not following rules inside the strawberry tunnels by picking and eating strawberries without weighing them first,” the post read.

The management, however, clarified that customers may still avail themselves of the “pick n’ pay for vegetables and herbs” package should they be interested to visit the farm.

In a previous report, Engr. Paul Revalde, the farm’s owner, said that after SunStar Cebu featured his farm last month, there was an influx of people in Barangay Maloray, a 21.8-kilometer drive from the Municipal Hall of Dalaguete.

While the arrival of visitors have been beneficial to the village, he maintained that the farm’s main goal would always be to locally produce organic vegetable and fruits. They also grow a selection of lettuce, carrots, herbs and spices.

“We wish to remind visitors to always respect our policies and rules because we welcome you inside. We are a farm first, not mainly a tourist attraction,” the management said.

Sergio’s Farm is open for visitors on Saturdays and Sundays from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. for an entrance fee of P50.
