Sipaka Point this Holy Week

THIS month will be the lent or Holy Week season. Many of us are now thinking for our usual “panaad” every year and to remember of what Jesus Christ had sacrifice for us.

There’s a place in Talisayan, Misamis Oriental that becomes the destination of some people for penitence every Holy Week. The place is almost two hours of travel from Cagayan de Oro City. Residents of Talisayan called it as Sipaka, the place is described as similar to one chocolate hill of Bohol.

The place is actually my favorite destination for “panaad” for almost four years now every Holy Week. Together with my friends, we need to climb the peak with the station of the cross along the way.

Make sure to use heavy duty shoes or sandals as the road is not yet concrete. When you reach the last station of the cross at the top of the hill, there is a big screen projector showing Bible films to internalize the lent season and the sacrifice of Jesus Christ.

You also have an option to stay at the peak of the hill overnight with your tent or any sleeping bag. It is recommended to bring your jacket and blanket as you will feel the cold breeze, at it is situated in front of the sea.

What amazes me is when the sun starts to rise, you will witness the breath taking view of the coastal area of Misamis Oriental and the open sea. The effort is all worth it!

Sometimes, the Holy Week season turns into bonding time with family and friends. But let us always remember that Holy Week is the most sacred time of the year and to commemorate the last week life of Jesus Christ and end up to Easter Feast. Sipaka and other Holy Week places are just some of the places that remind us to understand the sacrifice of Jesus made for us, to reach out and bridging the gap closer to him.

I just want to share with you meaningful passages below that I searched in the internet way back many years ago that it mean a lot to me!

“In God’s eyes, love is never absent. In God’s heart, forgiveness is never impossible. In God’s embrace, no one is ever alone or forgotten.”

“Let this season of Lent remind us all that this life we have and the material possessions we hold are just being lent to us. We’re all passersby. We’re not immigrants here. We’re all pilgrims on the road. We bring nothing when we die. But we can leave behind the love we’ve shared, the hope we have given and the goodness we’ve done.”

May we all have a meaningful Holy Week.
