NBI files drug trafficking charges vs syndicate members

THE National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) has filed drug trafficking complaints with the Department of Justice (DOJ) against the two men arrested in an anti-drug operation in Tondo, Manila.

Suspects Edris Macalabo and Arvin Zapanta on Monday underwent inquest proceedings for sale and possession of dangerous drugs and illegal possession of firearms and ammunition.

P120-million worth of illegal drugs and unlicensed firearms were seized from the suspects last April 1.

The arrest came following a report received by the NBI on March 29 that a drug syndicate headed by a certain Kim alias Boy Muslim will be transporting shabu together with several firearms from Manila to Mindanao.

The successful operation against the suspects that happened near Manila North Harbor in Tondo, Manila yielded a travel bag loaded with 24 plastic bags containing shabu totalling to 19.831 kilograms.

Also found inside the vehicle of the suspects are 10 .45 caliber pistols, 10 .38 caliber revolvers, five 9mm submachine guns, 10 9mm magazine clips, 19 .45 caliber magazines, four suppressors for 9mm, and 30 9mm live ammunitions.

According to the NBI, the subjects failed to provide documents and permits on the said items. (SunStar Philippines)
