Health fair kicks off Disability Week

THE Regional Committee on Disability Affairs (RCDA) has lined up activities for National Disability Prevention and Rehabilitation (NDPR) Week on July 17-23.

The RCDA is chaired by the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD), with the regional offices of frontline agencies mandated to promote, protect and ensure the full and equal opportunities of persons with disabilities, as well as leaders of disabled persons organizations as members.

The group will hold a health fair on July 17 that will offer free services like screening for non-communicable diseases (NCDs) such as blood glucose, uric acid, cholesterol and blood typing for PWDS.

There will also be and orientation and advocacy on STI/HIV, eye and ear screening, assessment for prosthetics; free haircut and massage to be provided by the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority, free legal assistance by the Department of Justice ; and provision of purchase booklets by DSWD.

On July 21 and 22, there will be an inspection of public conveyances as well as establishments by concerned agencies.

On July 23 there will be ear screening for Grade 6 pupils at the Mabini Elementary School. July 23 is the birthday of Apolinario Mabini, the role model of Filipinos with disabilities. (Maria Aprila Cruz)
