Itogon asks for more policemen

THE highland town of Itogon in Benguet is requesting for more policemen to cope with a growing population.

Itogon municipal officials have submitted their request to Benguet police OIC David Lacdan.

They said the town has a population of 55,960, one of the biggest in the province, but has only 57 policemen.

"The ratio of the Itogon Municipal Police Officer to population is one police to 1:1038," officials said stressing it is beyond the mandated 1:500 ratio," the officials noted in their request.

Itogon has also become one of the leading tourist destinations in the province, and with the influx of tourists there is "the urgent need to assign more male police officers in the municipality in order to enhance and maintain peace and order." (Maria Elena Catajan)
