LA TRINIDAD, Benguet -- With tourism a thriving industry in the province, the Provincial Board mulls of crafting an encompassing Tourism Code which integrates and harmonizes all existing related laws and looks into the various facets affecting the industry.

Board Member Robert Namoro said there is a need to codify existing legislative measures that deal on tourism and related concerns such that it will be unified, simplified and will not contradict each other.

Among the related measures already passed were on culture and mountain trekking.

The code also seeks to address tourism concerns across sectors such as environment, transportation, trade, security and peace and order, health, culture among others.

Namoro said there is a need for the Tourism Code of the respective towns to input those which are appropriate for integration in the crafting of the Provincial Tourism Code. Some municipal local governments already submitted, he said.

The next plan is for the holding of a province-wide tourism summit which in essence is a consultation among stakeholders and gathering of inputs from all of the towns.

Provincial Tourism Operations Officer Chief Clarita Prudencio commended the Provincial Board for spearheading the passage of a Tourism Code saying it would be very helpful in boosting the industry. (PR)
