Reopening of Oro resort expected to draw tourists

THE city-run Kagay-an Resort, formerly known as Lawndale Spring Resort, will open on April 8, Saturday in Sitio Taguanao, Barangay Indahag, Cagayan de Oro City.

City Councilor Jay Pascual, chair of the committee on tourism said the opening of the resort just in time for summer, is expected to attract tourists, as it did during its soft opening last week where about 2,000 individuals visited the resort.

According to the City Tourism Office led by Dorothy Jean Pabayo, the City Government spent around P30 million for the renovation of the resort.

The resort has an Olympic-sized pool to allow city athletes, particularly, swimming athletes, to train in the resort before joining national or international organizations.

She said the resort has seven swimming pools, 10 tropical huts, seven open cottages, which include comfort rooms, dressing rooms, and shower rooms.

It has also a gazebo which can be used as a venue or reception for those who want to host special events.

Pascual said this would also help improve the economy of the barangay since locals will be given the opportunity to display their products inside or outside the resort vicinity for more income.

Pascual said before the resort opens, the city council will have to approve the entrance fee and cottage rates of the resort, but initially, Pascual added that the entrance fee for adults is only worth P50 and P30 for children.

Before it became the Kagay-an resort, the entrance fee was only pegged at P3 to P5. Pascual, however, said this time, the city will impose higher but still affordable rates for the maintenance of the resort and sustain its security.

Aside from its Olympic-sized pool, the resort has another unique feature—it’s Persons with Disability-friendly (PWD) environment.

Pascual said the new summer destination includes ramps, leading not only to the comfort rooms, but also the swimming pool itself, so even PWDs can soak under the water.

"The resort is really designed to offer a hassle-free experience to PWDs," he said.

"They can roam around the area without worry because they are protected," Pascual added.

The employees of the resort will be paid by the city government. Pascual also said the City Government Chemco canteen will be also in the area to sell food for tourists.
