IPIL Mayor Anamel Olegario has categorically denied the reported rift between her and members of the Municipal Council.
“How can there be when the majority members of the local council are my party-mates,” Olegario said.
Majority of the council members, including the vice mayor, belong to Olegario's political party.
She said the reported rift has no basis and far from truth.
“I follow the procedures when dealing with the local council,” Olegario said, adding: “My office will only implement what the local council will decide on.”
Olegario said some people may have construed wrongly some incidents where “some issues need to be ironed out with the legislative especially the presiding officer.”
There were times when the mayor and the local council members, particularly the vice mayor, differed in their opinions on some measures.
She remembered when she forwarded to the local council the application for a depo by a certain company “for their consideration.”
“It was unfortunate that some members of the local council misconstrued my action as though I had already approved the application,” she said.
The vice mayor, a source in the legislative council said, was one of those who questioned the application.
“But it was only a case of misinterpretation because I had clarified to them that it should be the council members’ call if they approve or disapprove the application,” Olegario said.
The reported rift, she said, is only a public perception that is understandable given the political nature of her office.
“My office will continue to reach out to the different stakeholders in the local government to get things done,” she said. (SunStar Philippines)
