Pelayo IV: Lubao all set for biggest balloon fest in SE Asia

THE most awaited summer event in Lubao town here in Pampanga is back and it’s expected to be bigger and bolder! The 4th Lubao International Balloon and Music Festival will be happening at Pradera Verde, Prado Siongco on April 6 to 9.

And because it’s also a music fest, top musicians and celebrities will also perform on this four-day summer event including Bamboo, Sponge Cola, Parokya ni Edgar, Red Foo, and many more.

Noel Castro, event chairman, said organizers and pilots expect good wind conditions appropriate for balloon flights. Castro also mentioned that balloonists enjoy the town’s natural “box winds” that enables the pilots to move back to their lift off points.

Ten specially-shaped and more than 25 regularly shaped balloons are expected to color the summer skies. Eighteen countries will participate on this year’s festival.

And while tourists and locals alike will get to see the attractive celestial sphere, down on the soil they can also enjoy the scenery of the town’s bamboo ecological park.

Mayor Mylyn Pineda-Cayabyab did a great job in preparing the town for the biggest events in the province.

From Clark to Lubao, this transition is preparing us to go grander, raising the bar when it comes to balloon festivals. With the fast acceleration of the progress in Clark International Airport’s operation (thanks to the hardworking CIAC President Alex Cauguiran), it is high time that these balloons would soar in much safer and wider places like the one in Lubao.

Organizers advise the viewers to come early from 4:00 a.m. to catch the lift-off around 5:30 a.m. depending on the wind conditions.
