PALARONG Pambansa-bound Alfredo Plaza from Leon Garcia National High School (LGNHS) clinched the boys 47-kilogram (kg) gold medal in the just-concluded 80th Araw ng Dabaw Sports Festival Wrestling Tournament held at the Felcris Centrale.
Plaza, fresh from the Davao Regional Athletic Association (Davraa) Meet in Mati City, subdued his teammate Janry Pamor in the championship bout of the event presented by Sports Development Division-City Mayors Office (SDD-CMO) in cooperation with wrestling regional director Paolo Tancontian and Department of Education (DepEd) Davao City Division.
Pamor copped the silver while Shiro Sekikaw of Team Dumog-Tagum City and Rupher Trajico of Bayawan Wrestling Club took bronzes.
The Jet Manila-coached Team Dumog, however, dominated the tournament having clinched 10 gold medals courtesy of John Carl Francisco (boys 42kg), Elmer Edano (boys 53 kg), Justin Balo (boys 57 kg ), Kieth Castillano (boys 62 kg), Kirby Jamil (boys 70 kg), Mariel Batal (girls 34 kg), Jerrybebs Pagatpat (girls 40 kg), Viene Sophia Hyunnh (girls 44 kg), Rowena Luardo (girls 52 kg) and Jiah Pingot (girls 57 kg).
The rest of the champions were Jonathan Aguilon of Davao Occidental (boys 32kg), Charles Stephen Yap of Colegio de San Ignacio (boys 38kg), Reydentor Nacionales of Team I.Flex (74kg), Andre Faith Diao of Kapitan Tomas Monteverde Senior Central Elementary School (girls 28kg) and Shena Lamson of LGNHS (girls 48kg).
Seven clubs joined the event including IFlex Fitness Gym, Bayawan City Wrestling Club of Negros Occidental, LGNHS, Proverbsville Christian High School (PCHS), KTMCES, Team Dumog and Holy Child College of Mintal (HCCM).
Mary Fe Espinosa, Margie Apostol, John Cagurol, Holiday Fitness Gym and Holiday Martial Arts Training Center supported the competition. (ABM)
