Shine OS +, which stands for Secured Health Information Network and Exchange, will address these problems of patients and health workers.
Developed by telecommunications giant Smart Communications Inc., in coordination with Department of Health and Ateneo De Manila University, this mobile and web-based electronic medical records and referral system aims to connect communities and health service providers.
Ma. Regina Estuar, executive director of Ateneo Java Wireless Competency Center, said Shine allows for electronic registration of patients, recording of consultations, filling up and sending of referrals, and searching for a healthcare specialist or facility.
It also helps health workers set up appointments as well as send SMS notifications and reminders to their patients.
Dr. Shelbay Blanco, Association of Municipal Health Officers in the Philippines (Amhop) – Cebu Chapter president, said Shine makes their work easier and efficient.
He said Shine will omit redundant recording system in health care centers, allowing them to attend faster to the health requirements of a patient.
Blanco was among the 78 health officers from 22 towns in Cebu Province who attended the training and orientation of Shine OS + held today at Quest Hotel in Cebu City.
The system was already implemented in the towns of Cordova, Argao and San Remigio in Cebu. It was piloted in Iloilo City and will soon roll out all over the country.
