160 elderly in Pampanga receive cash grants

APALIT -- Some 910 senior citizens from the 12 villages in this town on Thursday, April 6, received financial assistance from the local government in Pampanga.

Mayor Peter Nucom, who led the distribution, said the awarding is part of the programs of the Department of Social Welfare and Development, which aims to provide social pension for the elderly.

He added that the beneficiaries received P1,500 each which covers the first three months of this year.

“Maliit na halaga lang ito pero makakatulong na din sa pambili ng gamot at pagkain ng ating mga nanay at tatay (This is just a small amount but it can help),” he said.

Nucom also said that for this year, the local government has around 1,500 pensioners, which represents some eight percent of the total 9,500 senior citizens.

He added that around 160 beneficiaries from barangays San Juan and Colgante have already received their social pensions earlier.
