Abra gives priority to disaster preparedness

BANGUED, Abra -- Governor Ma. Jocelyn Valera-Bernos impressed upon the members of the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (PDRRMC) that disaster preparedness is a top priority.

“Let us not put the safety of our people for granted. Let us always be prepared for the unexpected,” Bernos said during the PDRRMC first quarter meeting last week.

Bernos sought their continued commitment to work even harder and more seriously in disaster response and rehabilitation to effect faster recovery and development among victims of calamities.

The official assured member-agencies particularly those in the search and rescue teams the PDRRMC is ready to provide the tools and equipment needed for a more effective and efficient conduct of search and rescue operation.

PDRRM Officer Elmer Bersamin also announced the council has lined up trainings on Mountain Search and Rescue (Mosar) and on Incident Command System (ICS) since many of the members have not yet undergone the said capability building trainings.

The Council members also approved the addendum on the executive order that reorganized the PDRRMC upon the assumption of Bernos into office last year, for the inclusion of the Armed Forces of the Philippines Reserve Command as member of the search and rescue teams. (PIA-CAR)
