POLICE are still looking for the five detainees who escaped from the detention cell of Compostela Police Station at 5:20 a.m. Friday, April 7.
Inspector Romeo Caacoy Jr., Compostela town police chief, led his team in trying to capture Giovanni Tapayan, 40; Joel Cuyos, 33; Joseph Mahinay, 33; Robin Catipay, 19; and Nelson Agbay.
Senior Police Officer 1 Michael Magallon said the detainees escaped by destroying the cell's iron grill.
He said the duty jailer and desk officer at the time was Senior Police Officer 2 Jaime Maroliña.
Maroliña will face investigation.
Tapayan, Cuyos, and Mahinay are facing illegal drug charges, while police arrested Catipay for violating the anti-fencing law, and Agbay for operating an illegal numbers game.
The police station's detainees now stand at 33, not including the escapees. (KAL/SunStar Cebu)
