350 students to work in City Government

ABOUT 350 students will work in the City Government under the Department of Labor and Employment's (Dole) Special Program for Employment of Students (Spes).

Baguio City Labor and Employment Assistant Jannah Vivian Elitan said the 350 beneficiaries will be working for a period of 30 days and will start to work for two batches on April 24 to June 5, and June 13 to July 25.

The beneficiaries consist Spes babies (those who were included in the program the previous years) and 115 new beneficiaries who were hired.

Ages of those who were granted range from 15 to 30 years old.

No out-of-school youth (OSY) and children of displaced or repatriated overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) have joined the program.

The beneficiaries were chosen upon passing the qualifications, which include being a resident of Baguio City, physically fit to work and at least 15-30 years old, and upon submission of their birth certificate and grades for those who are currently studying and other necessary documents.

The beneficiaries will receive a pay of P453.68 per day for 30 days; 60 percent of this will be paid by the City Government and 40 percent will be from Dole.

“This program will help the students earn and gain experience during their break. This will help them in their studies next school year to be used for tuition and for their allowance,” Elitan said.

“We have chosen students who are poor but deserving students who we know will continue their studies next school year. And we believed in this program to help them even in a little way,” Elitan added.

The students will help some employees of the City Government in doing clerical tasks, such as encoding, paper filing, printing and photocopying.
