Aquino tells Poe: Be ready

PRESIDENT Benigno Aquino III and Senator Grace Poe met for the second time in Malacanang on Wednesday but the Chief Executive made no offer for her to run for any position under the ruling Liberal Party (LP).

Poe told reporters that the President simply told her to be prepared just in case LP chooses her to be its standard-bearer for 2016 polls.

"The President did not tell me that my running mate should be like this or I should do things like that. What he told me was to be prepared just in case – hopefully – his good administration will be continued," she said.

Poe said Aquino who is the titular head of LP is serious in searching for a presidential candidate that he will support.

"However, he did not clearly state who (will he choose). What he anticipates is that there are potential (individuals), which he listed and is on his mind," she added.

Meanwhile, Poe said that if ever she would run for higher post in 2016, she prefers to be an independent candidate.

"We (the President and I) had been straightforward to each other, most especially on my state of being independent," Poe said.

"I am not rushing things regarding that (2016 political plans) because even I should contemplate (whether I should seek for higher post next year or not). The President's trust is a big thing. It is a privilege to talk to him about that. But in the end, my decision would still prevail," she added.

Most of LP members prefer Local Government Manuel Roxas II to be the party's presidential candidate for 2016 and Poe as his running mate.

Poe, however, said she would be comfortable running alongside his friend, Senator Francis Escudero.

The first meeting between Poe and Aquino was held in early May. (Sunnex)
