‘Glocal’ food on CBM awards night

TO CAP off Cebu Business Month, the Cebu Chamber of Commerce and Industry will be awarding local entrepreneurs that have contributed to Cebu’s local economy during the Grand Chamber Awards Night on June 30.

CBM 2015 overall chair Francis Dy said in a media roundtable yesterday at the Radisson Blu Hotel that the awards will be given to entrepreneurs who have excelled in their chosen fields. Awards include Entrepreneur of the Year, Small Business Entrepreneur, Countryside Entrepreneur, Young Entrepreneur, and CSR (corporate social responsibility) Institution.

The chamber, according to officials, already has a list of nominees for the awards but chose not to disclose it for now. The nominees are owners or managers of publicly-listed or private companies who have been in the business for at least five years and who have “exceptional” track records based on the company’s present financial performance.

But more than just the awards and recognition, Grand Chamber Awards chair Beverly Dayanan said CCCI will highlight a “glocalized” play on food, fashion, and furniture, consistent with this year’s theme “Glocalized Cebu: Think Global, Act Local.”

The food, which will be served by Radisson Blu, will feature Cebuano cuisine, but with a “modern” touch, said the hotel’s executive chef Robert Kunitz.

Some CCCI officials said the menu can be an inspiration for the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation Summit. Cebu will host some meetings before the main meeting with heads of state is held in Manila.

Some 500 participants are expected to attend the awards night, said Dayanan.
