A FORMER policeman considered a high value target drug personality in Negros Oriental was shot to death after he resisted arrest in a drug bust at Sitio Matangad, Barangay San Jose, Tanjay City, Sunday morning, April 9.
Police identified the fatality as Rey Antonio Saga of Barangay 3, who sold shabu (methamphetamine hydrochloride) for P1,000 to operatives.
The operation was conducted by joint personnel of Provincial Police Drug Enforcement Unit led by Senior Inspector Don Richmon Conag, Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency and Provincial Public Safety Company in coordination with Tanjay City Police Station.
Saga drove away on his motorcycle upon sensing the presence of police operatives after the transaction around 2:50 a.m.
He was chased, and he fired at them, prompting the police to fire back.
Also seized from Saga were five sachets of suspected shabu with an estimated value of P165,000.
Police recovered from the scene a .38 caliber revolver, three live ammunition, and a fired bullet of the said firearm.
In Negros Occidental, drug surrenderer Bienvenido Cabatas, 42, of Ylagan Street, Barangay 5, San Carlos City was arrested Sunday after he yielded two sachets of shabu amounting to P20,000, drug paraphernalia, and P300 marked money.
Napoleon Torrechilla, 40, was also arrested on Iglesia Street, Barangay II, La Carlota City when police raided his house through a search warrant Friday.
Recovered from him were a sachet of shabu and drug paraphernalia.
In Bacolod City, Warren Gimeno, 36 and Ives Pelowa, 30, both residents of Purok Kabugwason, Barangay Mansilingan were collared by police in a drug bust Saturday, April 8, that led to a recovery of five sachets of shabu worth P4,000 and P200 marked money.
Also arrested on the same day was Frank Dechilla, 36, of Purok Tisa, Barangay 20 after he yielded three sachets of shabu and an improvised tooter.
