No witness yet in Serenio slay

THE police are still waiting for a witness who can help them in identifying the perpetrators who killed the younger brother of Negros Island Region’s top drug suspect Ricky Serenio.

Personnel of Police Station 8 in Bacolod City have no lead on the identities of the assailants who gunned down 31-year-old Wilmar Serenio at Purok Sampaguita 1, Barangay Singcang-Airport on Monday, April 10.

Investigation showed the victim was on his way home when two unidentified men on board a white Mitsubishi Adventure fired at him and fled with the driver. He succumbed to multiple gunshot wounds.

Police Station 8 chief Wilfredo Benoman Jr. said on Tuesday that one of the victims’ companions was being considered to testify, but he failed to show up.

“We are waiting for the witness to show up and execute an affidavit to solve this case as soon as possible,” Benoman added.

Benoman said the victim's family has somebody in mind that might be behind the killing, but without a witness and concrete evidence, it will still be difficult for police to investigate the person.

The police are not discounting the possibility that the incident might be linked to illegal drugs since the elder Serenio made revelations against policemen and other law enforcers, who were allegedly receiving protection money from the “Berya” drug group.
