Farmer shot dead by suspected NPA rebels

A FARMER was gunned down by suspected members of the New People's Army (NPA) at Sitio Aglahog 1, San Antonio village in Himamaylan City, Negros Occidental Tuesday morning, April 11.

Police identified the fatality as Leterden Teniano, 50, who was once involved in a homicide case.

Himamaylan City Police Station head Antonio Benitez said the victim was fixing the nipa hut in his farm when four unidentified men fired at him around 6:30 a.m. He succumbed to multiple gunshot wounds.

Before leaving, the assailants told the residents they were members of the NPA, he added.

Recovered from the scene was a fired cartridge of .45 caliber pistol.

Police has yet to establish the motive, but Benitez believed that the perpetrators were not rebels and just possibly wanted to mislead the witnesses.

In another development, a carpenter and technician of a meat shop was shot to death by two unidentified men on a motorcycle at Lopez-Jaena Street, Barangay 26, Bacolod City Tuesday evening.

Police records showed that July Flores, 36, of Handumanan village was having a drinking session with his friend around 9:05 p.m. when the assailants, who were wearing bonnets fired at him and fled. He succumbed to head injuries.

Investigators found a fired cartridge of .9mm caliber.
