3,000 Cagayan de Oro senior citizens receive social pension

ABOUT 3,000 senior citizens in Cagayan de Oro City have availed the social pension of the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) which was distributed from April 10 to 12.

Julius Pamisa, City Social Welfare and Development (CSWD) development officer said there are over 40,000 senior citizens in the city. But only those who are registered at the Office of the Senior Citizens Affairs (Osca) received the pension.

Pamisa said the city is set to expand and 1,500 senior members on May this year.

Pamisa said along the process of application, DSWD has made sure that these 3,011 senior citizens are prioritized help and assistance, such as those bed-ridden citizens, and those whose age is 80 years old and above.

Senior citizens receive P1,500 social pension per quarter or equivalent to P500 per month.

Qualified senior citizens can still apply at the Osca, the CSWD, or at the DSWD Regional Office.

Applicants or their representatives must bring an Osca ID, birth certificate and certificate of indigence upon the application of the program.

However, the DSWD has clarified that only citizens aged 60 and above who have no pension from private or government institutions, regular income, or support from their families may enroll in the program. Those who have pensions from Social Security System or Government Service Insurance System will not be accepted in the program.
