AFP slams ASG for beheading another hostage

ARMED Forces of the Philippines (AFP) Chief of Staff Eduardo Año condemned Monday the beheading of FB Ramona 2 captain Noel Besconde, who was abducted by the Abu Sayyaf Group (ASG) off the waters of the Celebes Sea last year.

Brigadier General Cirilito Sobejana, the commander of the Joint Task Force Sulu, said Besconde was murdered by the ASG on April 13 in the vicinity of Barangay Tugas in Patikul, Sulu.

Besconde was reportedly killed because he was sick, making it hard for the group to elude the government troops hunting them.

"While the AFP condemns this gruesome murder of this hapless kidnap victim, it all the more drives our Soldiers, Airmen, Sailors, and Marines to deliver the lethal blow against this band of terrorists and rescue the remaining kidnap victims," Año said.

Besconde was abducted along with his three crewmen on December 20 while sailing along the waters of Celebes Sea.

Año said he directed Sobejana to locate the remains of Besconde and bring it back to his family for a decent burial. (SunStar Philippines)
