Sisig Fiesta of Angeles City to showcase PH’s ‘best pork dish’

ANGELES CITY -- Sisig – arguably “the best pork dish on earth” dubbed by the New York Times – will be showcased again at the Train Station “Crossing” in Angeles City on April 29.

The Sisig Fiesta of Angeles City is a gastronomic event where the many varieties of sisig intend to showcase the creativity and distinct taste in food of Kapampangans.

A sundry of events ranging from cooking demonstration and competitions will pepper the whole night alongside music and dance performances.

Celebrity chefs will be hands-on to show off their culinary skills. The activity will highlight the evolution of sisig from its roots along with the changes it had undergone.

Cooking demonstrations from famous Kapampangan chefs Lilian Borromeo, Claude Tayag and Sau del Rosario will also amaze audiences as they showcase the history of sisig.

The competitions will highlight the skills of local culinary school students using the basic original formula of sisig and transforming it into something more amazing.

To add up spice, “Let’s do the twist” will be presented by Fresh Options wherein family tandems will also take on the challenge for innovation by twisting the mother recipe of sisig to a new level. This activity is meant to emphasize the “passing the tradition and heritage of the sisig of Angeles City to the next generation.”

Barbecue stalls will also add up to the nostalgic ambience of the “Crossing” with sights and smells of smoked food. A night market will also add color to the event as it will attract shopaholics to get bargain-priced items.

To add a vibrant and lively atmosphere, a street dancing competition will also be held. Establishments and jeepney drivers are requested to tune in to GVFM, the official media partner for Sisig Fiesta, for the jingle that the street dancers will dance along to. Grab Trike, one of the major sponsors of the event, pledged to provide the prizes for the competition.

The event is spearheaded by the Angeles City Tourism Office with the help of other local government agencies and Culinaria Pampanga, which is the newly formed association of chefs and culinary arts advocates based in Angeles City, and co-presented by Fresh Options. This event focuses on the younger generation to establish and create awareness about the history of sisig, its basic recipe and that food preparation is a heritage and a legacy worth passing on.
