Aquino lauds Iloilo’s unprecedented growth

PRESIDENT Benigno Aquino III on Thursday commended the efforts of the city and province of Iloilo in spearheading an unprecedented growth in the country.

Speaking at the new Provincial Capitol lobby after the unveiling of a marker of the old provincial building on June 11, the President acknowledged the concerted and united efforts of the people in Iloilo and his administration in the realization of some P4 billion development infrastructures from the city up to the Iloilo international airport in Cabatuan town.

Department of Public Works and Highways Secretary Rogelio Singson said that Iloilo City successfully posted a double digit growth and much higher than the national average. With all the infrastructures in the city, construction materials such as cement are in shortage.

Singson assured his department will do something about this acute cement shortage to meet the demands of a growing city including the needs for tourism roads in the province and the rest of Panay Island.

Iloilo City Mayor Jed Patrick Mabilog said the united political leadership in the city and the principle of 'tuwid na daan' with the exercise of strong political will be inspired by the President.

Mabilog said the unprecedented growth of the city now showed the trust and confidence of the business community and the support of the national government in providing the needed infrastructures.
