Rebuilding hope after the storm

AS A PART of its disaster management and recovery program, the TELUS International Philippines (TIP) Community Board, along with Hijo Resources Corporation, and People Management Association of the Philippines Davao Chapter, funded the reconstruction of Mary Mediatrix of All Grace Academy, a pre-school that was completely wiped out by Typhoon Pablo four years ago. Situated in a Baranggay Cabinuagan, New Bataan, Compostela Valley, the pre-school used to only accommodate seven children. But through the generous efforts of their benefactors, the academy now boasts enough facilities to cater to the 36 students currently enrolled.

Also responding to the limited psychosocial and emotional resources available to Barangay Cabinuangan and its surrounding towns and municipalities, TIP and Hijo Resources Corporation, together with MLAC Institute for Psychosocial Services, Inc., developed a guidebook aimed to assist caregivers when dealing with survivors. “Presence: A Primer on Trauma and Recovery for the Use of Trauma Workers,” is an all-encompassing tool that addresses all forms of traumatic experiences such as disasters, physical abuse, prostitution, loss of loved ones, and other devastating scenarios. The primer was recently launched in Barangay Cabinuangan last December 6, 2016, alongside a trauma healing seminar.
